The Focal Alpha 80 is a versatile studio monitor with quality components and design. It serves beautifully in a variety of capacities, performing just as well with instrumental music as with electronic music. This model comprises an 8 (21cm) woofer/ midrange speaker with a Polyglass cone loaded in a large laminar port associated witha 100W amplifier and a 1 (25mm) aluminum inverted dome tweeter (40W amplifier). Alpha 80 has a frequency response of 35Hz to 22kHz (+/- 3dB).The Polyglass cone makes for a rigid response that won’t be overwhelmed by prominent bass signals such as those present in contemporary electronic dance music, and yet, it inhibits unwanted, messy artifacts sometimes associated with those types of signals. These speakers are very smooth and a joy to listenb to and mix on. Pleasanrness of sound can sometimes have as an adjunct a tendency to bury distortion and harsh, overly present signals, but that is not the case with the Focal Alpha 80. Despite the overall warmth and richness of the speakers, they provide all of the detail, for good or ill, that you need in critical listening.They are excellent for cinema, podcast EQ and cleanup, and any other imaginable audio application as well as their most common use, instrumental or electronic music.
